The development of artificial intelligence (AI) today is largely supported by several scientists, engineers, and other professionals in society. The fundamentals of AI are founded on the concept of human intelligence. Futuristic robotic machines are anticipated to obtain information, and acquire knowledge, in order to learn, adapt, analyze, and act accordingly to mimic human thinking, reasoning, and reactions. Applications of modern AI that use these fundamental aspects today include game playing computers, decision making programs, computer language programs, neural networks, and robotics.
While it remains a concern today that AI will inevitably cause the destruction of humanity, a large community of supporters for the development of these machines, argue that AI will significantly impact humanity through constructive means and change the world of civilization and technology. Scientists and futurists recognize the potential dangers of AI. Yet, this same research community is very optimistic, as they believe that society should totally embrace the advancement of these innovative, intelligent machines. The possibilities and potential of the applications of this technology are endless. Some believe that humans have a great advantage over computers and robots due to their biological structures and emotional thinking. In addition, it is predicted that some robots are limited as well, because machines have limited sensory input, compared to humans who use their everyday five senses. Others argue, however, robots compared to humans perform much more efficiently when completing manufacturing tasks, computations, and other jobs. The ability of a machine to learn complex processes and train to increase efficiency and perfection, gives AI a huge advantage over humans due to its impressive capabilities.
Supporters for the full-fledged development of AI recognize the potential risks of regarding turning against humans and ending the human race. However, for a machine to reach such as level of intelligence and to implement such decision making, it must exhibit human emotion, be able to make decisions based on sufficient data, have self-conscious, and be creative. Basic intelligent machines today work on simple tasks, such as, moving objects, responding to humans, or searching language and data bases to analyze situations. People believe it will be years before such superintelligent robots will come into existence. In addition, robots in the future compared to humans will be to work without any biological distractions, such as, sleeping and eating, as well as, avoid emotional reasoning. It is believed that logical reasoning is better than emotional reasoning. In addition, in the workforce, it would be easier to copy the knowledge of an artificial mind that is already trained and can implement and integrate this data and instructions in other intelligent machines. On the other hand, time and money is required to reteach several people to complete the same task.
Advancements in medicine, military attacks and strategies, entertainment, and other developments are foreseen as remarkable discoveries in AI in the future. Not only is this field seen as a means for advancement to mankind’s list of remarkable achievements and discoveries, scientists predict that these robots will be able to act as sensible companions to humans and truly interact with man on deep emotional levels of feeling and intellect. Science fiction literature and films foreshadow a future where robots will serve as maids, factory workers, teachers, and even friends to humans in society. Other applications include notable advancements in medicine, which include prosthetic arms, robot surgery, and other sophisticated machine applications, which will allow robots to perform intense, complex procedures more efficiently and effectively than humans normally do more. Anticipated military applications include robotic police forces, in which machines enforce the law, warfare planning and decision making tools, and cyborg insects.
Opponents argue that such applications constitute alarming ethical concerns, including whether or not robots should be able to decide to kill someone or how far drones will and other machines be able to invade people’s privacy. Proponents respond that certain checks and balances, implemented through the law will prevent such harm to humanity. On that regard, developments for entertainment that implement AI in the future will include virtual reality gaming.
In conclusion, several professionals within and outside of the STEM world, interested in AI, believe that robots in the future will be able to replace man and perform job that humans are capable doing. Some argue that such an effect would leave humans unemployed and lazy, however, in essence, this opportunity would allow humans to take on other jobs. The prospects of the future include robots serving as robotic pets, doctors, instructors, and other professions. On that notion, society should allow AI to develop on its own account and let the chips fall where they may. Ultimately, just as scientists and creators in the past did not let fear and challenges get in their way of their creativity and hopes for the future, the development of AI should not be hindered by such similar opposition. The possibilities of the advancements and change to world that AI will cause the world will are intriguing.
